Site Notes
This site is likely to cause you considerable grief if you have a 56k modem... and is likely to cause you to want to hurt me if you have anything less than that.
If you're someone who cannot download all of these images, eventually there will be a VERY boring (to punish you) text version of this site at http://www.museslave.com/novachord/main/text.html (heyyyy, look at that! One of two text based links on my site!)
I've been designing 3D-type websites since 1997 because I tired quickly of the "magazine" format of most sites. As a result, I've been teased, taunted, and mocked because my sites are graphics-intensive.(one fellow from Europe told me I was an amateur and that I didn't know what I'm doing. If I don't know what I'm doing, I don't want to know what I'm doing) Sure, I'd like to make your visit as quick and easy as possible... but I have this problem... I would also like to make it beautiful, unique, and, if possible, artistic. I beg your forgiveness for my desire to subject you to my personal desires. Just doing my best to make the internet a PLACE instead of a BOOK. Stop griping and get DSL or Cable.
Are you having trouble navigating this site? Did you try plugging your computer in? Okay, sorry... that was for all you Tech Support people out there. Really, though... if you're having trouble navigating this site, explore a little bit. I know you're used to using text as your link... but I'd like to get away from that. I know it's difficult to fathom in this Windows world, but some of us dig the notion of INTUITIVE INTERFACE... THAT means: If that graphic looks like a button or a switch or a lever, it probably IS a button or a switch or a lever! Keep in mind, I'd like you to think of this site as a place, and of some pages as devices... so do what you'd do if you found a box with buttons in your attic... PUSH THE BUTTONS! Most graphics that do something light up, or move when you drag your mouse over them... so start dragging, baby!
This site was designed with the era in which the Novachord was released in mind. (1939... haven't you been to the History section yet??) I have endeavoured, when possible, to suggest the technology of that time in all of the graphics and 3D models.
I make no guarantees about the authenticity of the information. Much of it has been taken from Hammond manuals and the (Holy Grail) Novachord ad booklet. Some of it has been taken from questionable sources like the internet. As I learn more, I'll verify more. If you know something is false, please tell me. If you know someone who worked for Hammond during the production of the Novachord, please tell me!
Every graphic (except those from Hammond) on this site was designed, created, animated, and rendered by Marc R. A. Doty. For those who are interested: I used Bryce 4, Infini-D 4.1, Photoshop 4, Fireworks 3, and Dreamweaver 3. No, I don't write my own code. If you're the type who loves to dabble in languages you'll never speak, and delights in bathing in alphanumerics, good for you. I'm the type who loves to wallow in wireframes and framerates.
All the American Walnut wood grain textures you see on this site were scanned from the back panel (the panel that covers the poweramp and preamp) of a Novachord.
All music examples are (except where noted) Copyright 2001 Infinichor Architecture, and may not be dispersed, used, duplicated, or recorded without permission. And yes, my Novachord is out of tune.
Likewise, all photographs (excepting those from Hammond documents) were taken by Marc R.A. Doty and are ©2001 Infinichor Architecture.
Stop reading this and register your Novachord.
